Work-related accidents are an unfortunate reality. They can happen anywhere and at any time. You must do all you can to prevent them both as an employer and a worker.
You can consult a personal injury lawyer, Salt Lake City residents, if you have been injured at work and feel you need representation. You should also know about some of the most common work-related injuries, so let’s talk about those right now.
Back Injuries
If you have the sort of job where you need to lift and carry large objects around, sustaining a back injury becomes relatively likely. You can avoid this by only lifting and carrying objects that you’re certain you can handle. Don’t try to impress anyone by picking up more than you should be carrying.
Head Injuries
Head injuries happen fairly often in the workplace, especially if you’re working construction or something else that’s physically labor-intensive. Losing your balance and colliding with something can cause a head injury, so be sure to wear slip-proof shoes.
Slip-and-Fall Injuries
Speaking of slip-proof shoes, they can sometimes prevent you from slip-and-fall injuries. Tripping over objects or slipping on a wet or slick substance can happen in many jobs and industries. Always make sure to watch where you’re going.
Being Struck by a Moving Object
Being struck by an object can certainly injure you at work. It might happen if you work construction or if you spend a lot of time in a warehouse. Be aware of forklifts and other mechanical devices around you that demand your respect.
Violence by a Customer
If you have a customer-facing job, you never know when one of them might be having a lousy day. If they are, they might yell at you, but their bad mood could manifest itself physically as well. Do all you can to extricate yourself from a situation with a customer if you feel it could get physical.
Falling
Falling from a significant height and hurting yourself is something else that can happen on the job. If you work construction or wash windows for a living, these situations are probable, but you should also be careful in any office building with its windows open.
Cuts
Cutting yourself can happen in virtually any profession. You can sustain a nasty papercut working in an office, but the probability of you cutting yourself more seriously rises if you work as a line cook or you do something else in the restaurant industry.
Vehicle Crash Injuries
If you drive a vehicle for work, you can hurt yourself in a car crash. Always make sure to obey all traffic laws, but also watch out for reckless drivers.
Burns
You can burn yourself if you work in a kitchen, but it’s also possible in an office with a hot radiator. Watch out for these if you work near one.
Inhalation of Toxic Fumes
There are certain jobs where you might be exposed to toxic fumes. If you work at one, be sure to wear protective equipment.
